"We all need to interact more truthfully." Interview with Elita de Klerk
Elita de Klerk is the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the FW de Klerk Foundation and is also the patron of the FW de Klerk Foundation’s International Donor Support Programme. This foundation promotes and defends the South African Constitution, works for reconciliation, mutual understanding, and national unity, and preserves and celebrates the legacy of late President Frederik Willem de Klerk. The resemblance to the Václav Havel Library is not accidental. Elita and her husband President FW de Klerk met President Václav Havel several times, in Prague and Cape Town. She is a member of WWF 1001, a founding member of the Peace Parks Foundation, patron of the Cape Town Opera and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Cape Town. Elita is also patron of the Global Leadership Foundation (GLF), an international organisation which was founded in 2004 by FW de Klerk.
She is devoted to art in all its manifestations and has expanded her knowledge by completing numerous courses. She is an amateur painter and a student of graphology and psychology. In addition to the arts, she is committed to contributing towards a better life for disadvantaged and abused children in South Africa.
